Default IWAY, a recent experience

So it started out as playing tombs with the guild, having a pretty miserable run with our mixed spike, and a slightly better run with our trapper build. Anyway, it was getting late, so people had to leave. I was still rather awake. Just at the time the guildies left I saw a message for a team looking for a trapper. I thought why the hell not - pm'd the guy, and joined the team

To my surprise (although I should have expected it), it was an IWAY team. 5 W/R, 2 necros, 1 trapper (me). We set up who was taking what spirits, what the necros were taking, etc....

Few notes about this team.

i) One of the necros was wielding an eternal shield and a fiery dragon sword.
ii) About 2 to 3 of the Warriors were PVE and didn't have the standard one piece of knights armor. And probably didn't have optimal equipment and runes.
iii) Half the group spoke spanish, the other half spoke english, communication was poor needless to say.
iv) At least 2 of the players were below rank 1 - not that I judge people on rank, but they were rather bad.
v) these guys took about 30 seconds before deciding to res anyone

We started against what seemed like a random team. And we pretty much slaughtered them, we won the next too which also seemed to be against another random team, we eventually got knocked out by a pretty nice team, although it was close.

We go straight back in and are against British Bulldogs (DOGS), ranked about 200th I think. Now DOGS have beaten the guild team many time - and first thing I thought to myself as I saw who we against is that we have no chance - I even said so in the team chat. Game starts, I browse through their characters and at the moment I say it's a ranger spike I'm eating dirt lying on the floor, as they quite rightly went for the trapper and spiked the living shit out of me. Not too much later another goes down, I still haven't been res'd yet - things look pretty grim. As the match progressed a few more went down, but at the same time - some of theirs were dying too. Too my surprise - we eventually had the higher health, we'd both res'd once - and soon after we took out their priest. The match ended, and we had earned ourselves, what seemed to me like a miraculous victory - DOGS are a team we really struggle against with organised guild teams and decent communication. And the fact we just beat them with a very inexperienced team, it's just not on.

DOGS had the decency to say gg. It wasn't a good game, it was a harsh game. I actually apologised to one of the DOGS members who said gg, because the team I was on, shouldn't have been able to beat them, their skill level was much much less, some were extremely crap.

And so commence my IWAY moan - first of all I know IWAY is beatable, maintaing a constant Aegis, Ward Melee etc - but hell, compared to what the IWAY team has to do to beat you. Like whack 1 then 2, then 3 for an axe combo - and then 4 for IWAY, there's a bit of a difference in which is harder to do. They don't rely on enchantments and throw in natures renewal to screw your monks, and they throw in a crap load more of other spirits which only really damage the opposing team.

My problem isn't that it's overpowered or anything, but it's too easy. The game is supposed to be about skill right? And more often than not the team with the most skill should win? I'm sorry but that isn't the case. The gap in skill level between DOGS and the IWAY team I was on is immense, absolutely huge. Yet we won. And more often than not in my case it works against me. There are some very good players in SoF, yet we also lose to not so good IWAY teams at times, way too often really.

It doesn't take skill to bring every spirit imaginable to screw over a decent enemy in every possible way. Sure you can step out of the area of the spirit, but some are just huge. By the time you are out of the spirits range you are back in your starting area. Or you can kill the spirit? Sure, but finding it amongst " I W A Y ftw lawl" and " Pet - Ghostly Hero " is a bloody task in itself.

Balance Changes

* Capped attack speed adjustments at 133% of normal attack speed, down from 150% previously.
^ Not true, a guildie recently tested this and his frenzy was stacking with IWAY to a very devastating effect

If anything, it's making the tombs boring, 90% of American PUGS are IWAY, and it's getting a little tedious fighting IWAY every other match.

So, this is probably just sounding like a rant, which it is, I can't really deny that. But I'd like to know what others think of the current situation of the tombs. I think this has gone on for way too long to be considered a flavor of the month, and there's reason for it. It's too easy, requires very little skill (which is what the game SHOULD be about), and a slight mistake on the non-iway team can cost them the match. While I'd like to see something done about it, as I'd like the tombs to be fun and would like to be able to come up with builds without having to think about how IWAY might beat it, I couldn't really point out what should be done about it.

So... post your thoughts, suggestions, insults....

I'm on the american servers myself, I'm not blaming them I'm just stating the truth - there are no where near as many PUG IWAYS from Europe, a few european teams will do the joke of "American PUG, so that's IWAY right?"

There are tons of IWAY rants already on these boards. Please look for one, see if your points are not covered, and then try to add something useful there rather than revisit the same topic with the same agruments all over again.
